Upchurch wrote, "I was an Army Lieutenant assigned to the TV
Division, Production Branch of the Army Pictorial Center, March 1956 -
February 1958." He also provided notes about kinescope production
and distribution at Kinescopes.
"I worked on many TV projects as the
producer/director and as assistant director and post production
editorial supervisor on the recruiting series entitled 'Get Set – Go'.
The 26-show series was broadcast as a public service on 129 TV stations
in the USA.
"I was also assigned to present 'TV in the Army'
briefings at West Point, New York, and Fort Devens, Massachusetts. I was
also responsible to coordinate with the Pentagon, the assignment to APC
of personnel with TV civilian acquired skills.
"After honorable discharge from active duty in
the Army, I worked for the Department of the Army as chief of TV
Production, 1958 – 1962, Ft. Gordon, Georgia, chief of the TV Division,
Ft. Eustis, Virginia, 1962 – 1968, and as chief of TV Production, Ft.
Sam Houston, Texas, 1968 - 1987.
"I retired from the Department of the Army in
1987."
Assigned to the television division at this time
was Dennis E. Laughlin,
who was part of the set design and art department for television
programs
